In 2006 the top-rated name in the UK was Olivia which had been steadily rising in popularity over the previous four years (10th in 2002, 8th in 2003, 7th in 2004 and 4th in 2005). Second was Grace (previously 19th, 13th, 11th and 7th); 3rd was Jessica, which had been floating around the top 4 for the previous four years and was 1st in 2005; 4th was the surprising return of Ruby, which was very popular in the early 20th century but dropped out of use, (it had been 66th in 2002, 50th in 2003, 31st in 2004 and 15th in 2005); Finally at 5th, perhaps on its way down is Emily, placed 1st in 2003 and 2004 and 2nd in 2002 and 2005.

In the rest of the top ten were Sophie and Chloe, both on their way down Chloe was 1st in 2002, Sophie never made it to No. 1. Lucy and Ellie are also falling out of favour while Lucy has been stuck between 8th and 6th place for the past five years.

Looking to the future Lily (another name that fell out of favour in the last 70 years) is heading for the top spot having risen from 29th to 9th in the last five years.
