Directory > Music > Lyrics > Boney M"It’s euro-trash but it’s fun and catchy" sums up the music of Boney M, a band that was created to fill in for live performance when music producer Frank Farian accidentally had a hit. In 1975 Frank Farian recorded the single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" and sang the vocals himself, to his surprise it was a hit in Belgium and Holland so he needed to hire dancers and vocalists to be "Boney M" – the name he’d used for the single. He selected four West Indian singers and dancers: Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell (singers), the model Maizie Williams, and Bobby Farrell an innovative dancer. The male voice of Boney M remained Frank Farian. Liz Mitchell was English but the other members of the band were European, and Frank Farian West German (East and West Germany were still split at this time). Boney M were able to jump on the tail of ABBA’s success (see our <a href='#'>ABBA pages</a>) because they had made it possible for European bands to get heard in the UK and USA.
