"Computers make it so easy."

I want to say a bit about including pictures in your book. There is a lot to know about scanning and including images in your work and this isn’t going to be technical. Computers make it easy to scan photographs then just add them to your writing. If you do this blindly the end result will be files so huge you won’t be able to do anything with them.

If you want to publish professionally do a low resolution scan (100dpi) and put that into the file with a numbered caption (chapter and number of the image in the chapter).

Do a high resolution one (say 400-600dpi), save it as a JPEG file and keep that in a separate folder with a name that tells you where it’s supposed to go (same chapter/image number).

If you’ll be using an on-demand printer (like lulu.com) or printing on your own computer use a middle range resolution like 200dpi.

Always use JPEG (JPG) files.
