What is there to say about ABBA? Possibly the greatest pop band of all time, dubbed Sweden’s greatest export after Volvo, featuring:

Anni-Frid Lyngstad (vocals)
Agnetha Fältskog (vocals)
Benny Andersson (keyboards, vocals)
Björn Ulvaeus (guitar, vocals)

Never pretentious, always fun, they knew exactly what they were creating and did so with skill. The fact that they were writing in English, their second language, meant their lyrics were simple but they always worked perfectly. Having said that, as many artists attempting to cover their songs have discovered, the music itself is complex and hard to sing despite their sing-a-long quality.

From 1972 to 1982 they dominated the pop world with a string of number 1 hits including songs like Waterloo (the 1974 Eurovision winner, which shot them to stardom), Knowing Me Knowing You, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Fernando, Voulez Vous, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, SOS, Chiquita, Winner Takes It All and more.
Some pop giants fade and die, but the music of ABBA seems to go on forever and there isn’t a party that doesn’t benefit from a little ABBA.
