Eurovision

Benny and Björn had already had near misses with Eurovision, in 1972 they wrote the #3 placed hit for Lena Anderson, then wrote "Ring Ring" for the following year.

In late 1973 they were invited to contribute another song for the Swedish preliminaries to Eurovision. They chose "Waterloo" and sang it themselves.

They won the national preliminaries in February 1974 and this being their third time, they were much better prepared and understood exactly what they were trying to achieve.

On April 6th, 1974, in Brighton, "Waterloo" won and ABBA were rocketed to the top of the charts throughout Europe, and even reached #6 in the USA.
